Creightonpalooza and NAS dining out!

To end our beach party fun, we had Carl's friends from Creighton come visit us for a reunion.  We all met at Hammock beach for a three day weekend.  It was great to see everyone, and all of the new additions! The Lukenbills flew in from Cleveland and Robinsons came in from Omaha.

Sophia really loves the water and has gotten used to her floaties.  She also loves to play in the sand.

Charlie and Sophie are less than a week apart in age, which was so cool.  Charlie also loved playing with Jack, and Jack did a great job with the little ones.
We rented a four bedroom condo so that we could all be together. The place was amazing!!! I can't say enough good things about the resort.  It didn't hurt that it was less than an hour away from Jacksonville.

View from our room. If you are looking for a reasonably priced getaway, this is the place!  There were so many pools, a lazy river, the beach and great restaurants on site.
The boys and their babies spent a lot of time floating down the lazy river.  There was a great water slide, which Jack and I went down about 50 times.

This was our view from the restaurant on premise.  Although we had all of our kids, it was still a really fun and relaxing trip.  Jack and Sophie both loved running around the grounds together.

Once we came back to reality and the end of our long summer vacays, we got a chance to celebrate at the NAS dining out event. It is a wonderful event which honors our service members at the hospital. The main speaker of the event was a veteran who had been injured in combat. Specifically, his convoy was hit with an IED back in 2005. Many of his fellow soldiers died that day. His body was terribly burnt and he lost both ears, and all of his fingers on his right hand. He has had 72 surgeries to date, and told the sad tale of his 10 year old daughter walking in on Christmas day to see him with these burns. He is truly someone that continues to live each day to the fullest.

The reason I tell you about this man is because he is Carl's patient. When he came in complaining of terrible pain one afternoon, Carl was in the OR. Other surgeons tried to send him away thinking that his pain was just a complication of PTSD. The family specifically asked to have Carl come down and evaluate him because of their faith in Carl and they wanted his opinion on the matter. Carl immediately realized that this was more serious and that the man had compartment syndrome, and took him to the OR that afternoon. This man told his story in front of the entire hospital staff. He wanted to thank the men and women that serve. His only surgeries at NAS Jax were the ones that Carl had done. He personally thanked Carl for saving his leg that day. Jack and Sophie should be very proud of their daddy. I write it so that one day they can read about the great things that their dad does.

In other news, Jack is getting really excited about Halloween.  I took Jack to JoAnn fabrics to get some Fall decorations, and it was there we found our first cape.  He fell in love instantly.  His obsession with Spiderman was short lived, and now he is totally obsessed with Superman. Who wouldn't prefer a superhero that can fly? We call him Super Jack!   He wears this cape everywhere!!!!
